St. Kitts Passport Reissuance

The St. Kitts passport was one of the few in the world that did not list the holder’s original place of birth. This carried with it mixed consequences. For U.S. citizens who had trouble opening foreign bank or investment accounts due to FATCA, using a St. Kitts passport sometimes allowed them entrees that they could not otherwise obtain.
Conversely, however, the lack of this birthplace designation caused the United States and Canada to enact more stringent entry requirements.
In response to this treatment, St. Kitts has responded that it will reinstitute the requirement that its passports have more identifying information in them, including place of birth. To the extent the U.S. government has tried to give St. Kitts citizenship a black eye, this should alleviate some of those concerns. Unfortunately, however, for passport holders who obtained their passports in the last couple of years, this means they will have to surrender their passports and have them reissued in the newer format.
