St. Kitts: New Government, Same Citizenship Program

On February 18, 2015, Prime Minister Denzil Douglas of St. Kitts lost his position of almost 20 years when his party was defeated in general elections. His replacement, the Right Honorable Timothy Sylvester Harris, was a former minister in Douglas’ government until being dismissed in 2013. Harris subsequently created a new party (the People’s Labour Party) which, in a coalition with other parties, took the election this February.
Often, in the Caribbean and in Latin America, the ushering in of a new party to power can generate upheaval in the previous party’s programs which were put into effect. However, it appears the Citizenship by Investment Program is too important to scuttle, and will continue in force.
Since Prime Minister Harris’ assumption of office, the program has continued to provide citizenships to qualified applicants who have made the required contributions:

There are a number of strengths and advantages to the St. Kitts program. One of the benefits of the St. Kitts real estate investment program is that it allows someone who was already interested in purchasing a Caribbean home or vacation property to also obtain citizenship incidental to that purchase.
